Jakarta, May 9 -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto used the 48th ASEAN Summit to promote dialogue and negotiations aimed at peacefully resolving the prolonged political and security crises in Myanmar as well as tensions between Thailand and Cambodia.
As cited from a Presidential Secretariat statement on Saturday, Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono noted that the president joined Southeast Asian leaders in talks centered on developments in Myanmar following its recent elections.
"Indonesia holds to its position that if the elections were to proceed, they should be held in an inclusive manner and lead to solutions to ongoing problems there, ultimately bringing peace and fostering a better situation," he stated.
