Indonesia expands fishing village program to boost coastal welfare
Kendari, Aug. 17 -- Indonesia's Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries is advancing the Red and White Fishing Village (KNMP) program to improve the welfare of coastal communities nationwide, including fishermen and their families in Konawe District, Southeast Sulawesi.
Speaking in Konawe on Monday, Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said he had observed firsthand the construction of infrastructure under the program in Sorue Jaya Village.
"This area is among the first 100 Red and White Fishing Village sites to complete development. Our target is to complete construction at up to 1,269 locations by the end of this year," he said, adding that President Prabowo Subianto is expected to inaugurate the villages.
