Indonesia busts 59 drug rings in year-long law enforcement crackdown
Jakarta, June 27 -- Indonesia's anti-narcotics agency, working with the military and police, dismantled 59 drug trafficking networks over the past year, including seven international syndicates, as authorities intensified efforts to combat narcotics crimes, a senior presidential official said.
Presidential Chief of Staff Dudung Abdurachman, in a statement released in Jakarta on Saturday, said seven of the dismantled networks operated across international borders.
Law enforcement agencies also intercepted more than 200 tons of illegal narcotics with an estimated street value of 29 trillion rupiah, preventing the drugs from entering domestic distribution channels, Dudung said.
