Jakarta, July 22 -- Indonesia's House of Representatives (DPR) urged Southeast Asian parliaments to reinforce dialogue, consensus and cooperation as it hosted the 17th Meeting of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Caucus.

Opening the forum, DPR Speaker Puan Maharani highlighted the ASEAN Way, which emphasizes dialogue, consensus, respect for sovereignty and non-interference among Southeast Asian nations.

Puan made the remarks in Jakarta on Wednesday, urging regional countries to strengthen ASEAN as multilateral institutions face growing challenges worldwide.

"ASEAN centrality is rooted in our willingness to strengthen unity, trust and regional cooperation based on the values enshrined in the ASEAN Way," Puan said.
