Indonesia anti-graft body urges two-term limits for party chiefs
Jakarta, April 23 -- Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has proposed limiting the tenure of political party chairpersons to a maximum of two terms as part of efforts to prevent corruption.
The proposal is included in a study on political party governance conducted by the KPK's Monitoring Directorate, spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said, adding that it has an academic basis.
"One of the findings, in point eight, concerns limiting the tenure of party leaders. This also has an academic basis," he said at a press briefing in Jakarta on Thursday.
The study found that party cadre development often does not function well, leading to alleged entry costs for new members who can quickly become top candidates in elections.
