Indonesia, April 23 -- Indonesia's Forestry Ministry has expressed hope that the Highland Papua Province will serve as a stronghold of tropical forests for the country and the world in tackling greenhouse gas emissions.
Forestry Minister's Expert Staff for Climate Change Haruni Krinawati here on Thursday said the condition of forests in Papua Highlands remains relatively well preserved, referring to a presentation delivered by Acting Regional Secretary Wasuok D Siep.
"More than 80 percent of the forests are still well maintained. We hope Papua Highlands will become a province that serves as a stronghold in safeguarding our tropical forests," she said.
