Health Ministry records 412 malaria-free regions in 2026
Jakarta, April 30 -- The Ministry of Health announced that by 2026, 412 of the 514 districts/cities in Indonesia will have been declared malaria-free, considered a significant achievement.
On Thursday, the ministry's Acting Director General of Disease Control, Andi Saguni, said malaria control is part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with Indonesia committed to eliminating the disease nationwide by 2030.
Currently, malaria remains a health challenge in several regions, especially in eastern Indonesia.
"Around 95 percent of all malaria cases in Indonesia originate from the Papua region, which encompasses six provinces. This is our shared focus, and we must handle this immediately," he remarked.
