Halal sector contributes 27 pct to Indonesia's GDP: BPJPH
Jakarta, June 2 -- Indonesia's halal industry and supply-chain ecosystem contribute around Rp4,900 trillion (around US$274 billion), or 27 percent, to the country's gross domestic product (GDP), according to the Halal Products Assurance Agency (BPJPH).
"The halal industry contributes enormously to the national economy, accounting for 27 percent of national GDP. This shows that halal is not only about certification, but also an important part of Indonesia's economic development," BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan said in a statement on Tuesday.
He noted that halal's contribution to the economy is often not directly visible to the public, despite its significant impact on production, trade, and consumption.
