Jakarta, Sept. 6 -- The Indonesian government is preparing three alternative airports for domestic and international flights while six airports remain closed because volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau has disrupted aviation operations.

Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said Kertajati Airport in Majalengka, Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang and Juanda Airport in Surabaya had been prepared as alternative landing sites.

The measure aims to maintain air travel services, particularly for passengers traveling to Jakarta, through airports considered safe for operations, Dudy said here Sunday.
