Jakarta, April 9 -- The Communication and Digital Ministry has outlined its strategy to expand digital infrastructure by 2029 by advancing fiberization and adopting open access principles.
"The first priority is fiberization. This is important because fiber optic networks are key to sustainable services, both fixed and mobile broadband, especially for 5G backhaul," the ministry's director of digital infrastructure acceleration, Mulyadi, said on Thursday.
Fiber optic coverage per sub-district is projected to reach 90 percent by 2029, up from 72.5 percent in 2025.
This expansion is expected to boost fixed broadband penetration from 20.83 percent in 2025 to 50 percent by 2029.
