Govt optimises 843 feed banks ahead of El Nino
Indonesia, July 3 -- Indonesia's Ministry of Agriculture is optimising 843 animal feed banks across 34 provinces as part of its strategy to maintain the availability of livestock feed by strengthening silage and hay reserves in preparation for El Nino.
Director-General of Livestock and Animal Health at the Ministry, Agung Suganda, said feed banks play an important role in maintaining the stability of feed supply, especially during periods of declining forage production in the dry season.
"There are currently 843 feed bank units across 34 provinces. They are intended to produce longer-lasting livestock forage, either in fermented form as silage or in dried form as hay," Suganda said in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, on Friday.
