Indonesia, Sept. 29 -- The Indonesian government is pushing to develop the Sorong Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Southwest Papua into a major seafood processing hub to maximize the economic value of the region's abundant marine resources.

Director General of Marine and Fisheries at the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industry Muhammad Faisal said here on Monday (September 28) that the zone is primed to become the backbone of the province's fisheries sector.

"We hope the Sorong SEZ can serve as a prime location for the seafood processing industry," Faisal stated during a visit by Committee II of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) to the Southwest Papua Governor's Office.
