Makassar, Sept. 3 -- A Garuda Indonesia passenger jet carrying 156 people landed safely in South Sulawesi on Thursday after suffering a main landing gear tire failure mid-flight, airport authorities said.

Flight GA 604, operated by a Boeing 737-800 flying from Jakarta to Makassar, touched down on runway 03 at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport at 9:13 a.m. local time following a standard go-around maneuver.

Air traffic controllers alerted airport operators to the main gear tire blowout around 7:00 a.m. local time, prompting emergency and rescue services to deploy along the runway ahead of the landing.
