Flores quake damages 1,378 schools, affecting 177,678 students: BNPB
Jakarta, Aug. 21 -- Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said 1,378 schools on Flores Island in East Nusa Tenggara were damaged in the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck the region on Aug. 15.
BNPB Acting Data, Information and Disaster Communications Chief Berton SP Panjaitan said field teams had assessed 92 percent of the damaged schools.
"The overall assessment is 92 percent complete, covering 5,521 damaged classrooms and 502 school facility buildings classified as severely damaged," he told journalists in Jakarta on Friday.
