FAO ranks Indonesia world's fourth-largest rice producer
Gorontalo, June 24 -- Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has ranked Indonesia as the world's fourth-largest rice producer, with output reaching 38 million metric tons.
Sulaiman made the remarks while addressing the closing ceremony of the 17th National Farmers and Fishers Week (PENAS XVII) in Gorontalo District on Wednesday.
"FAO announced that our production ranks fourth in the world, reaching 38 million tons. The announcement came from FAO, not from us," Sulaiman said.
According to the minister, the achievement reflects an increase in national food production despite the challenges posed by climate change and global food supply uncertainties.
