Denpasar, Bali, Feb. 23 -- Extreme weather disrupted the Java-Bali interconnection system on Sunday evening, causing temporary power outages in parts of Bali, state-owned electricity firm PLN Bali UID said.

PLN Bali UID General Manager Eric Rossi Priyo Nugroho said the disturbance occurred at 7:39 p.m., triggering the automatic operation of the grid's protection system to secure the network.

The protection mechanism functions similarly to household electrical safety systems but operates on a much larger scale.

"When a disturbance is detected, the system automatically disconnects part of the load to prevent wider impacts and protect equipment," Nugroho said.
