Jakarta, Oct. 9 -- Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani called on the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to play a stronger role in promoting peace and a fairer global order.

The call came following the election of Milton Dick as the organization's 32nd president during the 153rd IPU Assembly in Arusha, Tanzania, on Friday, which Puan attended herself.

"My presence here is a reflection of my personal support and that of the Indonesian parliament for the IPU presidential election," Puan said.

She emphasized that the IPU presidency will play a crucial role amid shifting global dynamics.
