Semarang, C Java, July 23 -- Central Java is exploring sister-province and sister-city partnerships with Iran to expand cooperation in technology, investment, education, trade and other sectors, Governor Ahmad Luthfi said Wednesday.

"We discussed a sister-city partnership between Semarang and Yazd, as well as possible sister-province cooperation between Central Java and an Iranian province," Luthfi said.

The governor spoke after meeting Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia Mohammad Boroujerdi in Central Java on Wednesday.

The initiative aims to expand Central Java's international cooperation in technology, investment, education, health, agriculture, trade and halal tourism, Luthfi said.
