Tangerang, April 24 -- A 53-year-old British national has died by suicide while being held at an immigration detention center in West Java, officials confirmed on Friday.

The individual, identified by the initials DJR, was discovered unconscious in a bathroom at the Depok Immigration Office on Tuesday, April 21.

He had been taken into custody only two days prior, on April 20, pending an inspection regarding his stay permit.

Director General of Immigration, Hendarsam Marantoko, confirmed that both internal investigations and forensic autopsy results point to suicide.
