BRIN develops high-yield cocoa varieties to boost productivity
Jakarta, Aug. 28 -- Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is developing high-yield cocoa varieties resistant to pests and diseases and adaptable to different environments to boost national productivity and sustainability, a BRIN researcher said Thursday.
Rubiyo, a principal researcher at BRIN's Research Center for Plantation Crops, said the varieties are being developed to meet farmers' needs and be easily adopted across Indonesia's cocoa-producing regions.
"Innovation in technology that can be easily adopted by Indonesia's cocoa community," Rubiyo said during a panel discussion at the Regional Learning Forum on Sustainable Commodities.
BRIN is targeting varieties that can produce about 2-3 metric tons of dry beans...
