Jakarta, Sept. 25 -- Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) is stepping up efforts to contain forest and land fires covering about 600 hectares in Way Kambas National Park, Lampung, amid limited water supplies.

"The fire affected the Cabang Resort area of the Bungur section, with an estimated 600 hectares of land affected," Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data and Communications Center, Berton S.P. Panjaitan, said here on Friday.

BNPB said limited water supplies had hampered firefighting operations in Way Kambas National Park.

Panjaitan said difficult terrain, limited water supplies, and considerable distance between fire spots and water sources posed major challenges to firefighting operations.
