Jakarta, April 22 -- State-owned Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) has completed the return of Rp28.26 billion (US$1.65 million) in funds belonging to members of the Aek Nabara Parish Credit Union in North Sumatra, which had been embezzled by a bank employee.
BNI Director of Human Capital and Compliance Munadi Herlambang said the bank had transferred Rp21.26 billion, completing an earlier reimbursement of Rp7 billion.
Munadi said BNI extends its apologies to the public, particularly the Catholic community and members of the credit union, for the concerns and impact caused by the incident.
"With the completion of this reimbursement, we hope public trust can be maintained, and that this serves as a shared lesson for all parties," he said.
