Indonesia, April 5 -- Indonesia's Directorate General of Immigration said the head of the Batam Immigration Office, Hajar Aswad, has been temporarily suspended over alleged extortion involving foreign tourists at the Batam Centre International Ferry Terminal.
"It is correct. The individual has been temporarily withdrawn to the central office for further examination," Riau Islands regional immigration office head Ujo Sujoto said on Saturday.
An immigration officer identified by the initials JS has also been suspended for alleged involvement in the case.
Sujoto said the Directorate General's internal compliance unit is continuing its investigation to uncover possible involvement of other officers.
