Supreme Court Issues Notice to EC, Centre Over Decisions Taken by CEC Gyanesh Kumar-Led Panel
India, Oct. 5 -- The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to the Election Commission and the Centre seeking their responses within a week to a plea challenging the manner in which decisions were allegedly taken by the poll panel led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar without the approval of the other two Election Commissioners.
A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana took note of submissions made by senior advocate Vikas Singh and issued the notices.
The bench observed that decisions of the Election Commission have to be taken either unanimously or by majority and said it presumed that all decisions had been taken in accordance with this requirement.
