India, Sept. 18 -- The Supreme Court on Thursday expressed concern over reports of unnatural deaths in relief camps housing people displaced by the 2023 Manipur violence and sought a comprehensive report from the state Chief Secretary on 25 such cases.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana directed the Chief Secretary to provide details of the deaths, including post-mortem reports and documents establishing the causes of death. One of the cases reportedly involved an allegation of sexual assault.

"Tell your Chief Secretary not to invite orders. Tell us what measures you have taken," CJI Kant told the Manipur Advocate General during the hearing.
