India, Oct. 24 -- At least seven people were killed and 34 others injured after gunmen opened fire during a funeral at a Greek Orthodox church in Jordan's Karak governorate on Friday, October 23, authorities said.

The attack took place at a church in the village of Hamoud, in southern Jordan, around 180 kilometres south of the capital, Amman. The assailants reportedly opened fire during a funeral procession before fleeing the scene.

Jordanian authorities launched an investigation to identify those responsible. Initial reports described the attackers as unidentified assailants, and no group had claimed responsibility at the time of reporting.
