India, Sept. 25 -- Union Minister Ramdas Athawale on Friday called for a thorough investigation into the death by suicide of IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode, who died on September 18 amid allegations by his family of caste-based discrimination and harassment.

After visiting IIT Bombay, Athawale said the circumstances surrounding Wakode's death should be investigated thoroughly and that action should be taken against anyone found responsible.

"Any student who gets admission to the IIT is very clever and highly capable. Sahil's death should be thoroughly investigated and action should be taken against those responsible," Athawale said.
