Sea temperatures around Sri Lanka rise by 1 degree C amid El Nino conditions
Srilanka, Aug. 24 -- Sea temperatures around Sri Lanka have risen by 1 degree C, raising concerns over worsening weather conditions as the effects of the El Nino phenomenon continue to impact the country, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Authorities say the 1C rise in sea temperatures around Sri Lanka is being observed amid broader warming across the Pacific Ocean, where temperatures have reportedly increased by around 3C.
The El Nino conditions are expected to make the next eight months a critical period for Sri Lanka, with several districts already experiencing severe drought.
