Srilanka, Aug. 24 -- Electricity tariff fluctuations could be brought to an end if Sri Lanka takes steps to reduce power generation from thermal sources, the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) K. P. L. Chandralal has stated.
Speaking at a media briefing held today (24) on the purchase of electricity from power plants based on different energy sources, Chandralal said the cost of generating electricity through thermal power had been a major factor behind fluctuations in electricity tariffs in recent years.
He said Sri Lanka should make greater use of solar and other renewable energy sources where such generation capacity is available, rather than continuing to rely on thermal power.
