Srilanka, Aug. 6 -- A red warning has been issued by the Department of Meteorology for strong winds and very rough seas affecting parts of the country, warning of hazardous conditions and urging fishing and naval communities to avoid venturing into the affected sea areas.



The warning, issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at 10.00 a.m. today (06), will remain in effect until 10.00 a.m. tomorrow (07).



According to the Department, sea areas extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota are expected to be very rough at times, with strong gusty winds reaching 60 to 70 kmph.



The Department has advised naval and fishing communities not to venture into these sea areas until further notice.
