Railway unions to launch strike if issues remain unresolved
SriLanka, Sept. 13 -- The Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters' Association (SLRSMA) says it expects the Government to take prompt action to appoint a new General Manager of Railways to resolve the administrative issues prevailing within the Railway Department.
Association President Sumeda Somaratne said that if this does not happen, the strike scheduled to be launched by several railway trade unions on September 17 will definitely go ahead.
He further said that, for the first time in history, railway passenger associations have also extended their support to the planned trade union action as proper solutions have still not been provided to passenger-related issues, including train delays.
