Railway Guards to launch 24-hour strike tomorrow
SriLanka, June 9 -- The Sri Lanka Railway Guards' Union stated that train services may be disrupted tomorrow (10) due to a trade union action to be carried out by railway guards.
Secretary of the Union Rukmal Bandara stated that night trains will be operated to their destinations. However, the union has decided not to report to work stations for trains scheduled to commence services tomorrow morning.
Accordingly, the union has decided to launch a 24-hour token strike tomorrow.
Speaking further, Bandara said railway cranes have been operating for several days in violation of safety regulations, posing risks to both passengers and Railway Department property, while disregarding established rules of the department.
