India detains hundreds, locks down Delhi to foil protest against election chief
SriLanka, Oct. 10 -- Police detained hundreds of protesters, including the founder of the "Cockroach" youth movement, in Delhi on Saturday as security forces imposed restrictions across parts of the capital to prevent a demonstration demanding the resignation of India's Chief Election Commissioner.
Thousands of police and paramilitary personnel were deployed across the city. Mobile internet services were suspended in the central business district, while dozens of metro stations and markets were closed as authorities moved to prevent a rally organised by the Cockroach movement.
