Four arrested with 4,250 tonnes of sugar unfit for consumption
Srilanka, July 7 -- Four individuals have been arrested in the Petiyagoda area of Peliyagoda after authorities seized a stock of 4,250 tonnes of sugar deemed unfit for human consumption.
Police said the suspects were arrested during a raid carried out by the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Strike Force based on received intelligence.
During the operation, officers had recovered 85,000 sacks of sugar with an estimated street value of Rs. 850 million.
The arrested suspects are residents of Kaduwela, Angoda, Piliyandala, and Hatton, according to police.
Further investigations are being conducted by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA).
