Sri Lanka, May 11 -- Heavy rainfall has caused widespread flooding, displacing numerous families across 14 Grama Niladhari divisions in the Galewela Divisional Secretariat area.

Officials from the Divisional Secretariat said the worst-affected areas include Pattivela and Luckywatta, located near Galewela town.

Floodwaters have risen between three to five feet inside homes in the affected villages, causing significant damage to property, according to officials.

Authorities further stated that affected residents have been evacuated to safe locations. However, the total number of displaced families and individuals has not yet been officially confirmed as assessments are still underway.
