Amber warning issued for strong winds and rough seas
Sri Lanka, Sept. 20 -- The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber warning for strong winds and rough seas in several sea areas around Sri Lanka.
The advisory was issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre at 1:00 p.m. today (20) and will remain in effect until 1:00 p.m. tomorrow (21).
According to the advisory, sea areas extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota are expected to become rough at times, with strong gusty winds of up to 50-60 kilometres per hour.
Wave heights are also expected to increase to around 2.0 to 2.5 metres in sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Matara, the Met. Department said.
