Sri Lanka, April 12 -- A total of 49 individuals have died in separate road accidents during the past week from April 4 to 10.

Speaking at a media briefing held in Colombo, the Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development Bimal Ratnayake stated that most of these accidents were caused by driving under the influence of drugs.

He also urged the public to assist authorities by reporting reckless drivers to the Sri Lanka Police.
