Sri Lanka, May 12 -- A total of 12 spill gates of the Rajanganaya Reservoir have been opened as a precautionary measure due to prevailing adverse weather conditions and a rapid rise in water levels.
Authorities reported that heavy rainfall in upstream catchment areas, along with the opening of spill gates of the Kala Wewa, has led to a significant increase in water inflow into the Rajanganaya Reservoir.
To ensure the safety of the reservoir, the irrigation engineer in charge stated that a number of open spill gates were opened last evening.
Accordingly, four spill gates have been opened to a height of six feet each, another four gates to five feet each and a further four gates to four feet each.
