Srilanka, Oct. 24 -- The Department of Meteorology has issued a 'Red' warning for strong winds and rough seas for multi-day vessels in the Bay of Bengal deep-sea areas.

It warned that the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal in the vicinity of the North Andaman Islands is very likely to intensify into a depression by today (24).

The system is expected to move west-northwestward and intensify further into a deep depression by 25 October (Sunday) and into a cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal by the morning of 26 October (Monday).

Therefore, naval and fishing communities are warned not to venture into the deep-sea areas bounded by 10N-20N and 85E-95E until further notice, the department said.
