"No referendum required to extend judges' retirement age" - Cabinet Spokesperson
Srilanka, July 28 -- Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa has stated that there is no requirement to hold a referendum to implement the government's decision to extend the retirement age of judges.
Addressing the weekly Cabinet media briefing held at the Department of Government Information today (28), Minister Jayatissa said the Constitution does not stipulate any requirement for such a referendum.
He made the remarks in response to questions regarding the government's proposal to extend the retirement age of judges.
