Bangladesh, Sept. 16 -- Rachida Dati, Frances former justice and culture minister and current mayor of Pariss 7th arrondissement, went on trial Wednesday in Paris over allegations that she improperly received hundreds of thousands of euros from a Renault-Nissan subsidiary while serving as a member of the European Parliament.

The criminal proceedings, scheduled from September 16 to 28, centre on €900,000 in payments that Dati received between 2009 and 2013 from RNBV, a Dutch subsidiary of the Renault-Nissan alliance. Prosecutors allege that the payments were not simply compensation for legitimate legal services but were connected to efforts to influence European policy in the interests of Renault-Nissan.
