Philippines arrests South Korean fugitive linked to alleged $3.9 billion online gambling network
Bangladesh, Aug. 25 -- Philippine immigration authorities have arrested a 29-year-old South Korean woman who is wanted in her home country over allegations that she helped operate a vast illegal online gambling network that reportedly generated approximately 5.33 trillion won, or about $3.9 billion.
The arrest highlights the increasingly international nature of online gambling operations, which can move across borders, establish physical offices in multiple jurisdictions and rely on digital platforms to reach customers around the world. In this case, South Korean authorities allege that the woman played a managerial role in a network involving 23 illegal online gambling websites.
