Bangladesh, April 23 -- In a decision widely seen as a turning point for accountability in Moldova, a court in the capital city of Chișinău has sentenced controversial businessman and former political heavyweight Vladimir Plahotniuc to 19 years in prison. The ruling, delivered on April 22, convicts him of creating and leading a criminal organization, fraud, and money laundering-charges tied to the well known “Billion Dollar Bank Fraud” scandal that shook the countrys financial system.
