Bangladesh, Aug. 3 -- Lebanon commemorated Army Day this year under circumstances that underscore the extraordinary challenges confronting the country. Traditionally a day that celebrates the transfer of military authority from the French Mandate to the newly independent Lebanese state on Aug. 1, 1945, the occasion instead highlighted a nation grappling with security threats, political uncertainty, economic hardship and regional instability. Rather than reflecting on national achievements, Lebanon marked the anniversary while facing continuing Israeli military operations, widespread displacement, fragile diplomatic efforts and growing fears that broader Middle Eastern tensions could further complicate its future.
