India, July 22 -- Vodafone is testing an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered mobile mast capable of autonomously adjusting its radio antenna to optimise 4G and 5G coverage based on network demand, weather conditions and user behaviour, marking an early step towards fully autonomous radio access networks (RAN).

The technology combines an AI algorithm developed by Vodafone engineers with a robotic arm built by South Korean company HUMAX Networks. Together, they enable the mast to analyse local conditions, determine where network capacity is needed most and physically rotate or tilt the antenna without human intervention.
