Quick Heal flags rising threat from fake android apps
India, July 6 -- Mobile malware is becoming increasingly sophisticated, targeted and difficult to detect, even within trusted app ecosystems. According to Quick Heal Technologies Limited, cybercriminals are finding new ways to bypass Google Play Store security measures, exposing Android users to fake applications, hidden malware payloads and misuse of app permissions.
The findings are outlined in the India Cyber Threat Report 2026, which shows that the Android threat landscape continued to evolve throughout 2025. The report identified fake and malicious applications hosted on the Google Play Store alongside new malware families that exploited users' trust in legitimate app marketplaces and official-looking interfaces.
