India, Sept. 29 -- Reliance Jio remained ahead of Bharti Airtel in India's wireless subscriber market in August 2026, but the latest additions show how closely the two operators are now competing for subscriber growth.

Jio added nearly 2.4 million wireless subscribers during the month, the highest among the major telecom operators, while Airtel added around 2.1 million. The difference of roughly 300,000 additions highlights the relatively narrow gap in monthly subscriber growth between the two leading operators.

Vodafone Idea (Vi) added about 0.50 million subscribers, while Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) added nearly 0.49 million during the month.
