India, Aug. 20 -- India is on course to commission its spaceport at Kulasekarapattinam in Tamil Nadu by the financial year 2026-27. The spaceport is being developed to facilitate launches of Small Satellite Launch Vehicles (SSLVs). The project, which commenced in March 2025, has so far completed site development work, with construction of technical facilities now underway.
The information was shared by the Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh, in the Parliament on Wednesday. In his written reply to the Lok Sabha, the minister informed that as of 31 July 2025, the government has already spent Rs 389.58 crore of the total Rs 985.96 crore allocated for the project.
