India, July 30 -- India's space station programme has reached a key engineering milestone after completing the Baseline Design Review and system engineering for BAS-01, the first module of the Bharatiya Antariksh Station, enabling subsystem design work to begin, according to Union Minister of State for the Prime Minister's Office, Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.

The government said 31 baseline design documents have been released following the completion of the review, while an expert committee has concluded its assessment. Design of BAS-01 subsystems has now commenced.
