India, June 15 -- As nations increasingly view space infrastructure as critical to economic security and strategic resilience, experts at India Space Congress 2026 argued that satellite sovereignty extends far beyond simply launching satellites into orbit.

The discussion took place during Day 1 of India Space Congress 2026, held at Le Meridien, New Delhi, where policymakers, defence experts and technology leaders gathered for a panel session titled "Enabling Sovereign Satellites Globally". The session examined how countries are developing independent space capabilities to strengthen strategic autonomy, national resilience and long-term technological competitiveness in an increasingly contested global environment.
